Tawny 40 years

Tawny 40 years

Vieira de Sousa 40 years is Tawny Port with an indication of age. This exceptional Port is elaborated with several lots with an average age of 40 years spent in oak casks. The prolonged ageing in small wooden cask confers the characteristic Tawny colour and the complexity of aromas, the freshness and a persistent bouquet and refinement.

Vinification

Vieira de Sousa 40 years old Tawny is produced with grapes from our old vineyards along the Douro river. It is fermented with foot treading in lagares. After fortification with grape brandy, the wine ages for many years in casks and in old oak vats in our winery in the Douro Valley.

Tasting Notes

Beautiful brown colour with a brown rim and a touch of green — very characteristic in old Tawny Ports. On the nose, a wine from another era, but very much alive and delicatess. A fabulous concentration of coffee and liqueur which comes through on the palate with long spirity finish.
