DOC Douro

Vieira de Sousa Tinto Cão

Vieira de Sousa Tinto Cão

Tinto Cão is a traditional Douro grape variety, highly adapted to the region’s terroir. It ripens late and is very resistant to heat. Our Tinto Cão is pushed to the limit in this location, planted above schist walls facing south at Quinta do Roncão. It has been a fascinating experience to discover the potential of this grape and to craft a wine with a style different from the usual — offering good structure and fruit, with great intensity.

Vineyards

This Douro wine is made from grapes sourced from a single vineyard at Quinta do Roncão, by the Douro River. This low-altitude, south-facing vineyard offers ideal conditions for perfect ripening.

Vinification

We usually finish our harvest with Tinto Cão. The grapes are hand-selected in the vineyard and quickly transported to the winery. They ferment with whole bunches in small lagares, with very gentle extraction. Part of the batch is aged in oak barrels, while the rest remains in stainless steel.

Tasting Notes

A fresh red wine, highly expressive with intense aromas of youthful fruit. On the palate, it is structured and tannic.
